Busy Summer/Fall RAJA, Story of a Racehorse

December 5, 2012  |  News

Hello RAJAfarians!

What a busy summer and fall…and Christmas is right around the corner! Of course, the big news is that RAJA, Story of a Racehorse won a THIRD award! A Mom’s Choice Gold Award for Juvenile Fiction. Check out:

So..I’ve been kicking right along doing book signings and talks and trying to raise a little money from the signings to benefit racehorse retirement efforts like the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, the Retired Racehorse Training Project and ASPCA’s retiring racers initiative. And, of course, I’ve been having lots of fun riding, training and competing my ex-racehorses Rather Be, Notable Contender and Should Expect!

I spoke about writing and riding (and steeplechasing, of course!)  at the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library in Kennett Square, PA where some of the kids had fun trying on my jockey clothes and checking out my racing tack.  At the Green Mountain Horse Association Summer Youth Clinic in South Woodstock, VT and Garrison Forest School Middle School (in Owings Mills, MD - close to the Maryland Hunt Cup), we watched an exciting  DVD helmet cam of James Stierhoff and Twill Do winning the Maryland Hunt Cup.

This summer/fall  notable book signings for RAJA, Story of a Racehorse were held at:

Saratoga Racetrack (to benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation), the National Racing Museum in Saratoga, the National Sporting Library in Middleburg, VA, the Lake Placid Horse Show, the Vermont Summer Festival (where showed my ex-racehorses, Notable Contender and Should Expect), the UVM Morgan Horse Farm Open House (Oliver, the police horse in RAJA was a UVM Morgan!) the Hampton Classic where RAJA shows (to benefit the ASPCA Retiring Racers Initiative), the Green Mountain Horse Association Festival of Eventing (where I evented Should Expect), the Fair Hill Horse Trials (to benefit the Retired Racehorse Training Project), the Fall For Horses All Thoroughbred Horse Show and several bookstores, including the Country Bookshop in Southern Pines, NC and the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, VT.

If you are shopping for copies of RAJA, Story of a Racehorse for holiday presents for your friends and want to support re-training of ex-racehorses, go to the Retired Racehorse Training Project Facebook page and look for the discount code.  All website orders with the code will donate a percentage to RRTP…

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and Go..go..go!!!

Anne
